Dan McGlade and Energy Transportation: A legacy of great people, great projects and great equipment

Company News Advice for sellers Tips for buyers Comments

Dan McGlade of Energy Transportation, Wyoming

Dan McGlade epitomizes the American entrepreneur. He built his company from the ground up, one piece of equipment and one employee at a time. Today, Energy Transportation is regarded as one of the most prestigious crane operations in North America. And on March 25, 2015, Energy Transportation's entire fleet of cranes, heavy spec trucks and trailers, rigging and more will be sold by Ritchie Bros. at an unreserved public auction in Casper, Wyoming.

"I started in 1980 with one truck and just grew it from there," says Dan humbly. "Trucking, specialized hauling, then crane and rigging… Now we have 450 pieces of moving equipment, plus accessories, tooling and rigging. We've worked with some incredible equipment on many interesting projects over the years."

Dan talks about offloading, hauling and setting a one million pound vessel in Texas in 2006. He recalls assembling and erecting almost 250 wind towers in 2008, and changing out feed water heaters in Wyoming in 2012 – a staggering 190,000 lb lift at a 190 ft radius.

Dan's pride in his work, attention to detail, and commitment to his team and to his customers are well known. When asked about his success, he laughs modestly, then answers: "a lot of hard work, a lot of long days, teamwork—you can't do it without good people around you—and running quality late-model equipment."

After 30 years growing Energy Transportation, Dan decided it was time to realize the value that he had built up in his equipment while he was young enough to travel and enjoy the fruits of his labor. In early 2015 he sold Energy Transportation to NCSG Crane & Heavy Haul Corporation, a company he knew would take care of his team, his customers and the successful business he'd built. NCSG has its own fleet of almost 300 cranes, hundreds of trailers and specialized rigging equipment, and Dan remains actively involved with the business.

"I've developed a strong trust and great relationship with Ritchie Bros. – especially with Casey Fencl and Rob Giroux," says Dan, a long-time customer. "I won't waste my time going to an auction that's not unreserved. Buyers coming to a Ritchie Bros. auction know that everything will sell."

The Casper auction is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to buy quality equipment from one of the most well-respected crane and heavy haul companies in North America. "We have an outstanding fleet," says Dan. "You can take any piece in this sale and put it straight to work."

Ritchie Bros. is proud to assist Dan in the next phase of his career as he finds a home for his quality fleet of cranes, trucks and rigging—and looking forward to helping you gear up for your next big project.
