Catching bids at Ritchie Bros. auction in Nanaimo, BC, Canada

On October 26, 2015, Ritchie Bros. returned to Nanaimo, BC, Canada for its second Vancouver Island auction of the year. The unreserved public auction featured a quality selection of late-model, well-maintained logging equipment and attracted close to 1,200 bidders from 20+ countries. Hundreds of people bid online, and hundreds more braved the rain and enjoyed the action at the unusual auction site: a waterfront dock.

Bringing the auction to Nanaimo, BC

Ritchie Bros. doesn’t have a permanent auction site in Nanaimo, but that won’t stop us from having an auction there. In March 2015, we worked with the Nanaimo Port Authority to hold a successful auction at its Duke Point terminal (as you can see in this video).

When it came time to plan another Vancouver Island auction, it made sense to work with the Port Authority once again to take advantage of its conveniently-located Nanaimo Assembly Wharf, adjacent to downtown Nanaimo.

Bringing the auction to Nanaimo allowed equipment owners who live on or near the Island to sell their equipment close to home—and still benefit from Ritchie Bros.’ ability to reach and attract buyers from around the world.

We can (and have) set up and conducted full-service, professional equipment auctions just about anywhere - a farm, mine site, even a harbor. And we’ll bring everything we need to make the day a success: auctioneers and bid catchers, online bidding services, even a food truck or two (as we did in Nanaimo).
