Bidding limits and deposits
Registration to bid is free of charge, whether you are bidding in person, online or by proxy.
Depending on your bidding history and location, you may be required to place a refundable deposit equivalent to 25% of your desired bidding limit.
Your bidding limit is the maximum amount you are able to spend.
Ritchie Bros. offers you multiple ways to increase your bidding limit:
Verify your account
Verified online accounts may be eligible for a bidding limit without placing a refundable deposit. See video on how to verify your account.
Financing
Apply for up to 100% financing with $0 down from Ritchie Bros. Financial Services. Approved customers may have deposit waived.
Place a deposit
Place a refundable deposit by credit card or wire transfer equivalent to 25% of your bidding limit.

Wire transfer deposits
Wire transfer deposits must be made at least two banking days before the auction. See wire transfer accounts for bid deposits.
Credit card deposits
You have seven (7) days from the end of the auction to pay in full for any purchases made. If Ritchie Bros. does not receive full payment within seven (7) days of the end of the auction, your credit card may be charged automatically and a 2.95% iClosing Convenience Fee will be applied to the transaction. Any foreign currency exchange fees or charges are the responsibility of the credit card holder.
Credit card deposits can be made by Visa, MasterCard or American Express and must be placed at least 15 minutes before you can bid online
Deposits should be placed at least 15 minutes before you can bid online and no earlier than two (2) days before the auction. The hold will remain on your credit card for up to 5 days in Canada and the US, and up to 45 days outside Canada and the US. Check with your bank for more information.
A bid deposit authorization or hold does not result in a charge to your credit card but it does use up a portion of your credit limit. There are no service fees for placing a deposit with your credit card.
